Pepper or Moneybird?

Compare self-hosted invoice records and accountant exports with Moneybird's bookkeeping and connected administration.

Updated

Start with where your books will live. Moneybird documents bookkeeping that connects invoices, receipts and bank transactions. Pepper holds billing records and purchase evidence on your server, then supplies a period package for your accountant. If you need one application to do the bookkeeping too, that difference should decide the shortlist before invoice appearance does.

Moneybird's Dutch product pages describe bank connections, purchase-document recognition and VAT-return work. Its Peppol page describes sending and receiving invoices through that network. Check regional eligibility and the plan for your business. Official sources checked 8 October 2026: Moneybird features, VAT returns and Peppol.

Separate evidence from accounting

Job Pepper's released behavior Moneybird's documented scope
Supplier receipt You enter amounts and attach the file Recognition of supplier-document details
Bank transaction You record a payment after receipt Bank connections within its administration
Period work Calendar-period figures and source files for an accountant Bookkeeping and VAT-return workflow
Structured invoice Supported local UBL file Peppol sending and receiving

Test one month with a part-paid invoice, a credit note and two supplier receipts. In Pepper, check the remaining invoice balance and inspect the accountant ZIP. Have the accountant confirm that the fields and original files fit their process. Pepper does not post bookkeeping journals or calculate a country-specific return.

If a customer requires Peppol delivery, Pepper's local XML export does not complete that job. Agree the required format and delivery route before issuing. A file download and network delivery are separate capabilities.

Decide who runs the installation

Pepper is a source-available package for your hosting. You handle the server, email, backups and updates. The $99 purchase covers one business's production installation, full source, perpetual use, one year of updates and six months of product support. Update access renews automatically at $199/year. Cancel to stop future charges; your installed copy keeps working. Renewal does not extend support.

Moneybird's current offer is on its pricing page. Compare the full operating cost and the accounting work each option covers. A lower license cost alone does not show that moving your bookkeeping process will cost less.

Test the hand-off before moving records

Pepper has no Moneybird synchronization or dedicated migration. Keep the existing documents and history intact. Agree the cutover and opening position with your accountant before entering live work in a new installation.
