Pepper is business software you own, from NowSquare. It connects leads, customers, projects, tasks, tracked time, quotes, invoices and business records in one installation on hosting you choose, with the full source. Forms bring enquiries from an existing website or public link into the same system. People, files and conversations stay with the work; purchases and period exports support the hand-off to an accountant.

Product scope
Desks give each kind of work a focused Home and short menu. Bookings brings appointments, resources and events together. Venue, Listings and Showcase group widget families. Choose among your permitted desks in one menu and save your start desk. Owners and admins arrange pages and assign desks to roles or people. Below Admin, assignments also limit access. Customer plans choose one desk for their account.
Quotes, invoices, proformas, credit notes, recorded payments, reminders, recurring invoices, projects with tasks, timers, weekly timesheets and fixed or hourly billing, manual purchases and receipt attachments. Reports and tax periods keep currencies separate. A period ZIP and PDF support accountant hand-off. Supported invoices can include an EPC payment QR code and a local UBL XML export.
People, teams, custom roles and guest scopes control access alongside the four built-in roles. Files works like a desktop file browser, with an image viewer, text editing, versions and expiring share links. Each file keeps its related records. These platform records belong to the operator’s business.
Docs combines templates, rich text, linked records and saved versions. Approve frozen editions and share expiring recipient links. Calendar brings personal and shared events beside permitted work dates, with repetitions, reviewed invitations, reminders and ICS exchange. Automations connects work events and schedules to reviewed actions; sensitive steps require exact human approval.
Boards organize work in lists and cards with assignments, checklists, dates and linked business records. The board directory counts overdue cards and cards due this week. Private, team and workspace access control who can read and change them. Trello JSON import brings existing board work into Pepper.
Forms collect responses, consent and private files, and can route each response to a board card. Custom fields add business details to supported records. Saved table, list, board, calendar, timeline and gallery views help staff find the records they need. Comments and mentions stay with the record; the inbox gathers replies and updates. Live refresh keeps open work current. Optional browser push and in-app alerts cover mentions and assignments; presence respects people and record permissions.
AI is optional. The owner can connect MCP and HTTP clients with expiring access to permitted records. The tested jobs prepare an invoice draft, explain overdue balances and show customer context. Clients do the everyday work of each app, including file uploads. Actions such as issuing or emailing an invoice, recording a payment, exporting reports and changing bank or tax settings require approval. Other permitted changes can save immediately; consult the action’s documented access and approval requirements. Pepper needs no AI account. The optional built-in Assistant uses your own Anthropic, OpenAI or compatible provider. Each person selects permitted tools and confirms every write. Sensitive steps keep their separate human approval. Ordinary work and MCP remain available with Assistant off. Review setup and provider disclosure before enabling it. MCP clients can use browser sign-in. The tested-client table names MCP Inspector 2.10.1 and FastMCP CLI 4.1.0, tested through scripted HTTPS jobs with synthetic data and no model calls. Every app declares its tools or exclusions; the Agent API category documents them.
The audit log records actions and sampled reads, verifies a hash chain and exports signed evidence. Personal-field erasure keeps issued originals and financial figures. Installation health explains failed checks, including audit integrity. Neither feature is a compliance certification.
The Stripe invoice workflow collects confirmed payments and refunds against issued documents.
A widget launcher offers several published services from one website button. Each service keeps its own access and consent. Widgets include offers, stamp cards and customer workspaces with assigned plans, scoped records and individual counter staff. The platform keeps invoice ownership.
Technology and ownership
Laravel, PHP, React, Inertia, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS. Fresh installations need PHP 8.4+ and SQLite 3.44+, MySQL 8.4 or MariaDB 10.11, 11.4 or 11.8. Production dependencies and compiled assets ship with the package. See the hosting requirements before choosing a server.
The commercial license covers one production installation, including selling widget access to multiple customer businesses. It includes application source for that installation. You may not redistribute the application source or installable package. Hosting, email, maintenance and data-protection responsibilities remain with the operator.
